Welcome to the online gallery of GC Image Productions and Photos by James. I've always had a passion for photography. However, it was only during my last two years in University that I considered turning my passion into a career. Two events lead my decision. First, I volunteered with the student newspapper, "The Fulcrum". Then, a few months later, the organisers of a French language improv tournament asked me to be their official photographer. I started to realise that, not only did I enjoy the thrill of capturing the moment, other people also genuinely liked my photos and wanted me to capture their events for them. |

| Following my graduation from university, with a B.A. in literature, I enrolled in the photography program at La Cité Collégiale, Ottawa's French-language community college. I graduated in 1995, and was lucky enough to land a job with a local studio immediately after graduating. A year and a half later, I left that studio to start my own company, both to have more work and to enjoy a greater artistic freedom. |

| Over the years, my style has evolved. While looking back at photos from the early years of my career, I found that I would do them differently today. For this reason, while updating the website, I have concentrated on photos from the past three years. If you like what you see, or if you would like to see more, please do not hesitate to book an appointment for a consultation or a viewing. ________________________________________________________________________________ Why two names on the website? During the past few years, I have been showcasing my artistic, non-wedding photography using my middle name (James). The website where I was exhibiting my work was known as "Photos by James". I now feel it is time to regroup all my work onto one website. Furthermore, during the past few years, I been thinking about changing the name of the company to better reflect its core business. With the redesign of the website, and the evolution of my style, I felt the time was right to make the announcement. As of July 1, 2009, the name "Photos by James" will replace "GC Image Productions" as the name of the business. Gilles James Coughlan, owner |
